Timmy Tickle has been reviewed by some of the best reviewers out there. Although these reviews make me very proud, it is really those from parents and kids which really make my day.

Timmy Tickle is a bright orange octopus and he was an absolute hit with both Mr Five and Mr Three. The easy to follow storybook format with interactive animation was a nice mix of reading, following instructions and small problem solving skills. Learning rating 3/5 Entertainment Rating 4.5/5

Timmy Tickle is a cute new interactive storybook app for children ages two through four. Meet Timmy Tickle – a brilliantly animated octopus who loves to play games and learn! The app features an interactive story, as well as a paint section where little ones can color in pages from Timmy’s adventures. I love this app and its use of animation to help kids learn! I really enjoyed the Timmy Tickle app for iPad. I think that children would love this app and the many ways there are to learn and play. I will definitely be using this app with my son more – I can already tell he likes it a lot!

Timmy Tickle Story App for iPad Review The Mummyblogger

I love the fact that from the very first page the story engages children by asking them to help cheer Timmy up as he is sad by tickling him. When Roo did this I also tickled her much to her delight. The illustrations are also beautiful, and it is cute the way that Timmy moves on the screen showing off the underside of his body and his octopus suckers as he giggles and wiggles. It is almost like he comes to live on the screen.

Story About An Octopus Named Timmy – iHeartThisApp

Timmy Tickle is a cute interactive story about an octopus named Timmy. It is only eight pages long, but some pages are like a mini game for young children. Each page requires some interaction from the reader. Children tickle Timmy to cheer him up, help him roller skate, wash dishes, count from 1 to 8, learn to play four nursery rhymes on the xylophone and play two guessing games. On the last page, Timmy asks for help to turn out the lights which I think makes this story also a good bedtime story.

Expand rest of review

In addition, the painting section has eight beautiful pictures for children to color. For little children there is a magic paint color, rainbow swirl, that colors the entire picture when they swipe. The pictures can be saved to the iPad camera roll. The app does have social media links and other links within the information area.

What Elena Liked

The graphics were very nice and navigation was straight forward. The kids and I really enjoyed the xylophone page. They played the nursery rhymes and then did some free play.

Suggested Enhancement

I would wish that social media links were removed. Also, currently an entire sentence is highlighted when read. It would be nice for young children learning to read if each word were highlighted as it was read.

Overall

Timmy Tickle is a great storybook app that has a lot of interactive play for young children.

Timmy Tickle! Geeks with Juniors

As a parent who wants to maximize how my juniors are playing and learning with the iPad, I am constantly scouring the App Store to find the best educational apps that are suitable for them. One key criteria that I’ve been using is limiting my search to iPad apps only. This helps for most of the times, except for rare cases when I also need to have some toddler apps on my iPhone as well.

If you have a one-year old toddler like my second son, Noah, you would understand that they still can’t hold the iPad properly. Most of them can’t even properly control their own powers and end up beating down the iPad with their hands. On the other hand, I found that these tiny hands are perfect for the iPhone.

The question is which iPhone apps are perfect for one-year olds. As I’ve mentioned in one of my reviews, interactivity is always a key success factor for apps that are aimed at juniors. Apps that fail to be interactive would fail to get your junior’s attention.

Timmy Tickle! is an interactive app for the iPhone by Harriet Pellereau that features an octopus character named Timmy. Inspired by a short animation entitled Oktapodi, Harriet decided to create Timmy as the main character for her first app aimed for juniors.

Expand rest of review

For an octopus, eight is a magic number, and throughout the app you will see that this is a recurring theme. Timmy Tickle! features an octopus with eight arms/legs, eight activity pages to read and play with, eight beautifully illustrated pages for your juniors to paint, and even eight colors to paint with. If you pay attention to the page about numbers, it even features the numbers from 1 to 8 only, instead of the commonly seen 1 to 10.In addition to the above activities, your juniors can also tap to tickle Timmy and make him giggle, help him ride roller skates, and smear the screen as he tries to wash the mugs. One of the main features in this app is a xylophone activity page in which your juniors are guided to play the tunes of four popular nursery rhymes, i.e. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Row Row Row Your Boat, Three Blind Mice, and Old MacDonald Had a Farm.

What I like about Timmy Tickle!
As a geek, I really appreciate the attention to details that Harriet has put into designing this app. Having discovered that Timmy Tickle! has a recurring theme only boosts my appreciation. I also notice how the painting pages feature more detailed illustrations than the ones inside the storybook.

The two pages I like most are the fruits-imitating activity and costume play. Activities like these make me want to be a kid again. Finally, I like the way the app closes itself after turning all the lights out. What a perfect way to end the night, if you let your juniors play with the app before they go to bed.

I also appreciate the professional voice over from Gina Beck that is recruited for the app. If you really care about the thought process that went into designing the apps your juniors would play, I believe you would enjoy reading Harriet’s process.

How Philip and Noah use the app
Philip, my 3-year old son, loves the xylophone activity page. What amazed me is that he even had the idea to open an app that could play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the iPad, while he sang and played along with the xylophone on my iPhone. He also loves the painting activity.

My second son, Noah, particularly likes the first two pages of the app where he can simply tap anywhere on screen to see Timmy tickled or fall from the roller skates. Mirroring it onto my Apple TV really helps Noah to see and enjoy how anything he does to Timmy reflected on both the iPhone and the big screen.

Conclusion
Even though not all the activities that Timmy does in this app are connected together in the storyline, they are still a collection of playful activities that resonate well with toddlers under the age of 4. The animations are well implemented, the illustrations and sound effects are top quality. I only wish the app has a soothing background music to accompany my juniors while they’re painting. Overall, I think Timmy Tickle! is a solid activity app for your juniors, especially the ones who are younger.

I would recommend you to download the Timmy Tickle! iPhone app for younger toddlers and the iPad version for the older ones. They are developed as different apps and, based on my experiment, the iPhone app would not run properly on the iPad.

Timmy Tickle! iPhone Review

We have reviewed a few kids apps here at The Smartphone App Review, and have been highly critical of a few of them. Many of these titles are so patronising that they are barely played by actual children and are purchased to sit in the home screen, more or less unused, forever.

Today, we are reviewing Timmy Tickle, an app that hopes to buck this trend and provide a challenging yet fun game for kids on iOS.

Timmy Tickle is based around a giant orange octopus, the Timmy Tickle of the title, and there are various ways that kids can get to play with him, all told through a sweet story with a few different mini games to play, as well as a few items that are more of the interactive story kind of thing.

Surprisingly, a lot of effort has gone on the 3D model of the octopus, which animates superbly and is rendered very nicely indeed. It is good to see that some care has been made here. The rest of the app is also presented really nicely, and is very professionally done.

Expand rest of review

The app really is very comprehensive, and I especially liked the ability to share the pictures that children colour in via Facebook, which is sure to be a feature parents will love. I gave the app to my three year old boy to play with, which is really the only test that matters, and he loved it. He seemed to really like interacting with Timmy and was fond of the painting sections most of all, which tells me that this is a quality kids app, as if he doesn’t like anything he is only too happy to let me know! The only slight let down here is that this isn’t a universal app, so if you want it looking nice on iPad, you are going to have to buy a second app- not ideal.Overall, this is a really nice kids app with plenty of activities and games to keep children interested, and is thankfully non-patronising.

iPad App Reviews by Gill Robins

Age range: 2 – 5
Educational value: rhythm and rhyme; co-ordination; counting; sequencing numbers; playing simple melodies; shape and colour matching
Fun rating: 4/5
Educational rating: 3/5

Timmy Tickle, the character in an app from the new developer Nimblebean, is a delightful orange octopus who draws readers in by inviting them to join him in a series of games. The story is very simply written in rhyming couplets and it supports young children through game-based learning.

Timmy likes to roller skate, which is tricky when you have eight legs. He needs help moving around the screen and even then, he falls over regularly. The next scene finds him washing up: be very careful not to break any plates whilst spin drying them on the end of one of his legs! Count to 8 using the coloured balloons tied to his legs; as you touch each balloon in the correct sequence, it will float. Get the sequence wrong and Timmy will blow a raspberry.

Expand rest of review

Play 4 different nursery rhymes (arrows move ahead of the tune to show which notes of his xylophone to tap). Matching skills are developed as Timmy morphs both his shape and colour into different fruits. Reinforce these skills when Timmy plays dress up, matching him with one of the framed pictures. End the story when play is over by turning out the lights so that Timmy can go to sleep.

There are 2 story options – Read to Me and Read to Myself. There are also 8 detailed pictures to paint and a facility to save finished paintings. Navigation is clear and simple for very young children to use and a drop down menu allows for easy selection of a favourite game. A particular strength is the location of forward and back page turns in the top corners of each page to avoid accidental turns when swiping during play.

Although very simple, this is a delightful, funny app. The key to its success is not just the engaging little octopus, but also the fact that he invites the reader to help with tasks and games. His successes and failures become those of the mini-gamer, too. It will provide plenty of independent play for toddlers and young children, no doubt with much laughter.

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, an app like Timmy Ticklecomes along. This iPad eBook app from Harriet Pellereau and the folks atNimblebean is a sterling example of all that is good in the children’s app genre. It is superbly designed, full of delightful surprises, and sure to please. Let’s see how the latest round of updates translates in this adorable app for kids.

Features: ★★★★★
The Timmy Tickle iPad app is designed to enchant and entertain children ages 2 – 4. I think this app has some serious star appeal. From the cutting edge graphics (more about that after the cut) to the engaging storyline that makes every page an adventure, Timmy Tickle sets itself apart from the competition in almost every way.
Timmy Tickle introduces kids to a playful octopus, aptly named Timmy. As the story progresses, kids will count, play, learn about balance, practice nursery rhymes and so much more. The devs pulled out all the stops when it came to this app, right down to the voice work, done by West End star Gina Beck of Wicked.
It’s also the kind of app that puts parents and their concerns first. The Timmy Tickle app tucks any links that might lead kids astray out of the way, and constantly encourages parents for feedback. I’ll tell you firsthand, watching a three year old play with this app is a ton of fun. The revamp includes a set of coloring pages you can save to your photo album, and a long list of improvements, positive reinforcement chimes, new games and tons of other adjustments. Parents, even if you’ve had this app in the past, it’s time to take another look at Timmy Tickle.

Layout & Design: ★★★★☆

When it comes to graphics, Timmy Tickle rolls out the red carpet. The quality and vibrancy of every page of this app is simply astounding. My only slight critique here is that sometimes the animations that are started by a touch are a bit jagged. If a child touches twice, for example, it can seem to stall out the app a bit. But otherwise, I found this app as beautiful and glossy as possible.
There’s even a new iPhone version of this app with a sweet price tag. I was pleased to see links for feedback, Facebook and other out of app navigation all tucked neatly away on an info page that’s almost impossible for kids to access once they’ve begun playing the app. Smooth move, Nimblebean.

Overall Value: ★★★★★
Timmy Tickle for the iPad and iPhone come in at two extremely affordable prices. For the iPhone, the app is just $.99, while the iPad version is $1.99. Either way, you can’t lose with this app. It’s beautiful, smart, engaging, endearing and, most of all, just plain fun for kids. I think Timmy Tickle is a steal at $1.99, and encourage parents looking for high quality apps to invest in this beauty immediately.

Timmy Tickle is a digital board book designed for toddlers and preschoolers; however others will find it irresistible, too. This iPad app is sure to entertain kids of all ages.
I would compare Timmy Tickle to what we refer to as a board book, rather than story book, due to its small amount of text per page and rhyming phrases. The phrases are silly and fun; sure to produce giggles from the readers.
Timmy is an adorable octopus who draws the reader in to interact with him on each page, from tickling Timmy to playing nursery rhymes on a xylophone and finally turning out the lights. Read to Me and Read to Myself options are available. The Read to Me contains highlighting of the text, a line at a time. Interactions and narration can be repeated easily.

My testers especially loved playing the four nursery rhymes on the xylophone and turning out the lights, turning out the lights is a great way to end the book. If the lights are turned back on, Timmy wakes up.
Navigating between pages, and back to the main screen, is very easy. Page arrows are available on each page, as are buttons for moving quickly between the pages and coloring book. The buttons are discretely placed where they should not be too distracting to young users.
Coloring pages are also available in the app. Kids, of all abilities, are able to color or paint the pages, which can then be saved to your device Photos directory.
The developers definitely had their young users in mind when designing the interface of the app. It is super simple and easy to use. If the kids are not sure what to do with the interactions a small guide appears on the screen to show them where to touch or what motion to use with their fingers; such as when washing the dishes they can make a side to side motion for washing rather than just touching the bubbles to pop them.
Timmy Tickle does not contain in-app purchases or ads; external links and social media buttons are located on the information menu. If the kids do push the information menu button and get to the social media buttons, they are not taken immediately out of the app, but instead prompted with a warning that this action will exit the app. The targeted audience of the app cannot read the warnings; hopefully, these safeguards will prevent them from going to the unwanted location.
An iPhone version is available in iTunes.
Bottom line
Timmy Tickle is a lot of fun packed into a simple and easy to use app; most importantly, it is absolutely delightful!

CApptivated Kids

Timmy Tickle is a very cute, orange octopus who just loves to be tickled! And he would love you to have fun helping him with his very busy day. As close friends and family know, eight is by far my favourite number (eight biscuits anyone?) So in honour of an octopus’s defining features, here are eight reasons why we love Timmy Tickle:

1. Timmy Tickle is a very cute character and my children instantly took to him, from the moment he invited them to tickle him on the first page. Indeed, it might take you a while to get off the first page, as he loves tickles so much.

2. This is an app where the activities star ahead of the story, which very loosely brings them together, and some of them are really different to the usual run-of-the-mill jigsaws, colouring and matching. Our favourite is a xylophone with four nursery rhymes to play. Little Miss Chatterbox (aged two and a half) had no problem picking out Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star by following the arrows above the keys.

3. We have had lots of giggles together as Timmy Tickle makes himself into different kinds of fruit, whips different disguises on and off, or tries to stay upright on eight roller skates. Some of the activities are just for fun, but some help with numbers, colours and matching skills.

Expand rest of review

4. The animations really have the “wow” factor, with very smooth and fun interactions and page transitions. Visually, it looks very like an animated film and this really brings Timmy and his story to life.

5. Timmy Tickle blows a raspberry noise if you get something wrong. This made Mr Tall collapse with laughter for a good ten minutes. Four year olds love raspberries.

6. This app really focuses on the needs of preschoolers. For example, rather than just having a “Read” and “Paint” button on the menu, it also has a picture of someone with an open book or a paintbrush, and “Read” or “Paint” is spoken when pressed to confirm your choice. The activities are just the right level of difficulty, and you don’t have to complete them to move on to the next page.

7. The narration by actress Gina Beck (currently starring in Wicked in the West End) strikes just the right note.

8. There is real potential to expand the app, for example adding more songs for the xylophone, more disguises, or more colouring pages. I can also see Timmy Tickle starring in other apps further down the line.

My only gripe? If you interact with the app while the story is ongoing, the narration will stop. I have found this with other apps too and it is a bit of a pain if you have an impatient child. But I know the developer is aware of the issue and thinking about how to improve it in future updates.

Overall Timmy Tickle is something a bit different from other apps I have seen, and my children really love it.

APPreciation

Timmy tickle is too cute! My little guy loves this little octopus and all the activities throughout the app. He enjoyed tickling Timmy, helping him stand up on his roller skates, washing the dishes, helping him count, play the xylophone, matching the fruit, guessing which consume Tommy had on and helping him say goodnight. This makes a wonderful bedtime story. The coloring pages are a nice added bonus. I liked that each color was identified when tapped, nice reinforcement! The “magic paint” is so cool!

Expand rest of review

The colorful animations and the narration are top notch. The navigation is very child friendly. This is a wonderful engaging app and each page is stunning. Timmy has great facial expressions which adds to his kind, friendly and cheerful character. I would HIGHLY recommend this app as fun and education for young children.

GiggleApps

Timmy Tickle is a charming interactive storybook application, less of a narrative than a short collection of activities that one can participate in alongside a friendly orange octopus named Timmy. Both iPad as well as iPhone versions are available.

Children will be drawn into this app by the first page when they are asked by both narration and text to tickle Timmy to help him with a sad mood. Although animated illustrations have become commonplace within applications, there is something a little special in the way Timmy moves, showing off the underside of his suction-cupped body as he giggles and wiggles that I find endearing.

Expand rest of review

Other moments include helping Timmy stay upright on roller skates, cleaning dishes at a sink full of bubbles, or helping Tommy with number recognition by tapping numbered-shaped balloons in order. A subtle orb is used as a highlight to help children make the most of these interactions – a nice touch. One of my favorite sections is when Timmy asks for help playing the xylophone. Four songs are included such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Three Blind Mice” with the use of prompts that show children what notes to tap. It is especially nice that children can also choose to tap these keys themselves to create their own music as well as to deviate from the song they are playing in order to add their personal touches as well.

I also really enjoy the fruit dress-up game with Timmy, as here Timmy will change his shape and color to reflect one of five fruits such as banana, strawberry, or grapes, asking children to select the fruit he is emulating.

A really cute costume dress-up game is also included where children play with Timmy, as here kids need to match up an image to the dress-up costume Timmy changes into, complete with endearing details such as Timmy putting into place or removing his fake fangs when wearing his vampire costume.

Timmy Tickle ends nicely with Timmy’s eyes getting noticeably heavy, and children are asked to turn off the lights with a tap – a lovely way to end this fun book.
The only notes I have for Timmy Tickle is that I wish the narration would not come to a halt if the reader prematurely begin interacting with the page’s hotspots. Currently, children can easily miss some of the narration if they do not wait until the voiceover is over in order to investigate the page.
I am also not a fan of the “raspberry” sound used to demonstrate when readers choose an incorrect answer during the fruit and costume games. I may be more sensitive to this sound in general – a sound my son uses that we have a zero-tolerance for based on its rudeness as a whole, so I may be overly disappointed with this sound choice, but I believe there are better sound clues for a missed answer than this.

Even with these notes, children will have a lot of fun with Timmy Tickle. It is nice to see an animal like an octopus, not thought of typically as cuddly, get this level of attention in a storybook. The act of tickling and interacting with him in general will be fun for all.

Best Interactive eBooks

A delightful story game for toddlers. Kids can interact with Timmy by touching the screen, tickling him if he feels sad or helping him wash the dishes. In addition to the story, the app features a paint section where children can color in eight different Timmy adventures.

Already an impressive iPad book-app, animated octopus Timmy Tickle has now squeezed himself into an iPhone version. Storytelling, digital painting, fruit-matching and, naturally, tickling all feature.

Apps Playground

Octopuses are fascinating sea-creatures for children and parents alike. No wonder they crop up regularly in stories aimed at kids, usually in a friendly role.

Timmy Tickle certainly falls into that category. Originally the star of an iPad app released in 2011 by Harriet Pellereau, he’s now back with a separate version for iPhone and iPod touch.

The emphasis is on activities rather than just reading a story, so your children can expect to be tickling the titular octopus, playing nursery rhymes on his xylophone, counting balloons, washing plates and roller-skating, among other interactive options. There’s also a separate colouring section.

Expand rest of review

The app is aimed at 2-5 year-olds, and includes voice narration from theatre actress Gina Beck. In its App Store description, Pellereau outlines various new features and improvements added since the original iPad version, describing the app as “a labour of love”. It certainly deserves to get its reward for that effort: Timmy Tickle is a joyful eight-legged experience. He costs £1.49 on iPhone, and £1.99 on iPad.

Kirkus Reviews Issue

A day in the life of a playful, ticklish octopus. If Timmy Tickle were a real kid he’d probably be in high demand as a playmate. He’s adventurous and imaginative, and he loves to have fun. He tries roller-skating, despite the obvious challenge of having eight skates rather than two. He takes up the xylophone. He loves to play camouflage by taking on the color, texture and shape of assorted pieces of fruit.

Kirkus Star

But perhaps most endearing are his disguises, which he can put on and take off more quickly than readers can say “presto-change-o”. Timmy is drawn and animated in a way that makes him seem genuinely engaged with readers, a testament to Pellereau’s skill as a designer and developer. Every component of this app is well planned and executed. The graphics are vibrant, and the interactive elements are simple, yet superb. A readily accessible menu makes the story easy to navigate, and in terms of speed and functionality, it’s clean as a whistle. To top it off, Timmy is outlandishly cute, sporting Shrek-like ears and a wide variety of charming facial expressions. A play date with this cheerful little octopod will provide several educational opportunities, but it’s Timmy’s jovial disposition and his appetite for adventure that will likely keeps kids coming back for more.

Eight high-fives for a truly splendid effort. (iPad storybook app. 18 mos.-5)

Kids Can tickle Timmy to their hearts desire
BY LYNETTE SESODIA on Tue July 26th, 2011

Timmy Tickle ($4.99) by Nimblebean is an interactive storybook designed for young children between the ages two and six. As the story is being read, children can tap around the screen to interact with Timmy the Octopus. Timmy is a ticklish, dishwashing, costume-wearing, color-changing Octopus who is sure to entertain your kids.

Expand rest of review

The app is beautifully designed. All the graphics are crisp and clean and the menus are clutter free. It is so simple that even a two year-old could operate it! There are two story modes, “read to me” or “read myself.” Younger children can opt for the “read to me” option and the app will read the two lines of text to them on each page, explaining how to interact with Timmy.

There are eight pages in the storybook. I think this is quite short, but hopefully more will follow in future updates. Each page has a different focus and children can tap on Timmy to make him laugh, change color, or play with different objects on the screen.

One thing that I found particularly annoying about the app was how long it took Timmy to complete an action. Children have very short attention spans, and they like instant gratification. But it is impossible to cut short any of Timmy’s actions by tapping again. So on the roller skate page, kids cannot tap both sides of Timmy and see him fall (which I am sure they would laugh at if they saw). The inability to interrupt an interaction with a second tap is Timmy Tickle’s biggest flaw.

Overall, Timmy Tickle is a very cute and entertaining game for young children. Little kids like repetition so I think Timmy Tickle has a moderate replay value. $4.99 is a bit steep, but you should still check it out in the App Store.

You probably ask yourself why somebody would be named “Tickle” but it’s actually a very good name for Timmy because he is very ticklish. You can tickle Timmy and see how funny he is: You have to know something about Timmy and thisinteractive story for iPad is going to allow you to befriend him and know more about him.  For a start, he is not like any other octopus, he has hobbies and one of these hobbies is skating.

Expand rest of review

Well, don’t laugh, skating is hard when you have 2 legs so imagine him with 8!!

Don’t tickle him now, he will lose his balance :) I did so, I admit, and he almost fell…

Besides being a “great” skater he is also a musician. And if you like music too, why don’t you join Timmy and sing together? Don’t be shy, tap the xylophone and see if Timmy can help:

If you help Timmy sing, he will help you count. The only problem is that he has a bit of a trouble when he reaches number 9… You will see why :) I admit I was trying to cheer him up for not being able to count to 10 and I kinda…messed up his balloons :) He didn’t mind cause he kept smiling at me. He’s a good friend. And he knows a lot more tricks than I could tell you. You might wanna discover them all by yourself by reading or listening to the story.

I will just mention them in a hurry. He can change colors easily and you can help by tapping the fruits and applaud him everytime the camouflage is successful….

…and also loves to disguise.

Whether he is a vampire, a pirate or a cowboy he will always go back to being himself a in a short time.

I would love to tell you more about Timmy but I am afraid it is already late for him so I will just turn off the lights and tell you and him “good night” :)

Digital Storytime  ★★★★☆ Carisa Kluver

Timmy Tickle is a short, but sweet digital book app for the youngest readers and listeners. A simple story about an adorable octopus is accompanied by stunning 3-D computer animation. Timmy wears roller skates, plays dress up and even does the dishes (although he does break quite a few). The story explores numbers, colors, and musical notes among other early learning topics. The animation is superb, making Timmy come alive whenever tapped.

Expand rest of review

The interactivity is mostly just fun, but does include some reinforcement of colors, numbers and even an assortment of fruit. I found this app a bit too stimulating for bedtime reading, but for any other time of day it is delightful.Page turn is by simple arrows and the easy-to-read text highlights sentence by sentence in time with the narration. While word-for-word narration would be nicer, the book is solidly made overall with ample settings, including a page guide. The app also has no links that lead outside the app, something I appreciate as a parent.Overall this is a perfect app for toddlers and preschoolers but doesn’t have a lot of content, especially for kids over 5. But with computer animation this cool, even older readers will have a hard time not paging through this app at least once (or finding a little kid to share it with as an excuse to play with it again themselves).

Timmy Tickle Let’s Children Tickle Timmy (Say That Three Times Fast) ★★★★☆
July 27, 2011

Interactive children’s books have established themselves as a commodity for the iPad. Developers are finding more ways to engage new readers by offering bonus features like games, puzzles and coloring pages. Timmy Tickle keeps it basic, while still offering clever interactions with each page and displaying high-quality images for your little one to enjoy.

Expand rest of review

The story, meant for children from 3-5 years old, is about a young Octopus and the things he likes to do, from playing music to dressing in costumes. Each page of the book shows Timmy doing something different for kids to interact with. You can tickle Timmy, dress him in costumes, play with his balloons, help him wash (and break) dishes and turn out the lights for him when it is time for bed.

The graphics are high-quality 3-D computer generated images, the likes of which Pixar would be impressed with. The imagery is colorful and simple, just perfect for a new or not-yet reader. The book has two story modes, Read to Me and Read Myself, and the book’s narrator is a clear-speaking reader with a pleasant, soft-spoken voice.
What I liked: The graphics were beautiful and well-crafted. The animation is clever and smooth.
What I didn’t like: For an eight-page book this app is fairly pricey. It should either come with more of a story or be less expensive. Even with the high-quality of the app, it is still too much.
To buy or not to buy: Because this book is likely to be replayed over and over by your little one, it is a good buy, but because it comes at a premium price, it is not a great buy.

New Timmy Tickle App Beta Test Reviews

Heidi loves it, especially the painting! She said today (without prompting!) that she loves the paint bit. Overall we are really impressed and think you have done an amazing job with this…soon I can see timmy tickle being the next angry birds :0)

We LOVE this app. My 3 year old now keeps hassling my husband to play with the octopus on his ipad! Glad there is an iphone version as it may keep her happy if she can use mine!
We especially love the camoflage page and love his banana transformation. Yes, I am 30 but I love it too!
It seems very user friendly for young children – not tried with 2 year olds but my daughter (who is quite Iphone/ipad app savvy) was fine with most of it.

This is such a beautiful polished app. Big ups! UI is beautiful and clear.
Xylophone page is great – playing guided by the arrows is genius. All in all – awesome!

I think it’s great that it’s harder to flip pages, particularly with Olivia – although I know she is younger than your target audience, but she is a HUGE fan! Isabelle instantly figured out the drop down boxes, I think kids are far more intuitive than sometimes we give them credit for, and they just ‘get’ iPads! The paint raser is BRILLIANT and perfect, can’t erase it in one click, but simply and quickly white wash it.

My son Eric enjoyed using it and stayed on it for a while. He really liked turning the lights on and off. I really liked the app. And it’s so polished. My wife is a teacher, and she thought it was educational as well. Eric didn’t have any problem revealing the navigation buttons but he has been using the iPad for a while.
Hope it goes well. It is much better than anything DK are putting out!

My four year old son, Ned, has been busy playing with Timmy and has really been enjoying him. His favourite parts are the xylophone and painting areas. Ned has very much enjoyed Timmy and searches him out when he manages to get hold of my phone!!

My son is 2 and a half and has enjoyed playing with app. He had no issues using it right away and in particular he enjoyed the noises when timmy laughs etc. he also loves turning the lamps on and off and I think that part is particularly clever. He enjoys the paint part – in particular it’s good you say the colour name when it’s selected and we both like the magic paint. All in all he is really enjoying it and no usage or navigation issues.

As a clinical child Psychologist I would highly recommend this App as a learning aid, creative tool and play. The App is very beautiful and I love the colours and gentle sound effects. Well done!

My little girl is 2 1/2 years and loves the app! The colouring is great as we have other apps where you have to click between screens to change colour etc so we love the fact that everything is functional on one screen.
Overall though we think its a great app!!

I let my 3 year old play the app for quite a while yesterday, she has been using my iPhone for at least 18 months to play apps and can probably use it better than me!
She loved the painting part of the app and spent most of her time doing the magic painting. It must have been popular with her though as she didn’t look at any of my other apps and cried when I took it off her for bedtime!

I think your app is wonderful and my sister (4 years old) asked if there were any more stories when she finished playing with it. She understood it easily and with my help navigated quite well around the story. The animations are excellent…I think that your app is great and my sister enjoyed it very much ! Also the narration is excellent and it was very easy for my sister to understand.

Both myself and my son have had a play on your app Timmy Tickles, I have to say we both enjoyed it and I don’t think there is anything like it out there. My son has just turned 4 and he is a big iPhone fan – he likes to play games on it a lot.
Our first impressions of the app is that the Timmy Tickle’s Octopus is very attractive and the animation is good quality giving an authentic believable character. The design is really nice and attracts the eye – the animation is very fluid.
